I was very lucky. I rode the ship at 20:00 from central side and could see the symphony of lights from on the sea. Its was amazing beautiful moment!!

Saw the star ferry on TV years ago and was thrilled to get a chance to go on it - it is so cheap compared to travel services elsewhere i have used. Was great to chug chug chug across the water to Hong Kong Island. Great views and minor escape from the smog

Taking the star ferry is the scenic way to get across the harbour instead of taking a bus, subway or driving across. It does take longer but it is the cheaper alternative. I wanted to be on the upper deck but got in line for the lower one by accident. There isn’t a way to move to and from either level once you’re on the ferry. The backs of the seating are movable so you can change it to sit the desired way based on which way the ferry is going.

The best way to go between HK Island and Kowloon! Beats the metro and taxis. Super easy to find your way without even saying a word of Cantonese :-) You can pay with your Octopus Public Transportation Card, it's below 3 HK dollars. Crossing is very fast, views spectacular.
