Depart from your accommodation in the morning to the shores of Lake Kerikini in the northern part of Greece. Lake Kerkini is an artificial lake that provides habitat of incomparable beauty and is considered among the best biodiverse environment in Europe. 22 different habitat types are found here, resulting in a quite amazing variety of wildlife. There are around 1.300 plant species, 4.300 insect species, 30 fish species, 26 species of reptiles, around 60 species of mammal, 11 species of amphibians and more than 300 bird species. During our visit, cruise around the lake in a “plava”, typical traditional wooden boat, to learn about the flora and fauna as well as the history of the area, and to observe rare birds in their nestling locations, large colonies of water buffalo, flamingos, pelicans, cranes and cormorants (depending the season of your visit). Free time to walk around the lake or to pick one of local optional activities, such as horse riding, cycling, kayaking or canoeing, hiking. Taste delicious food and local specialties like buffalo meat, yoghurt and cheese, and lake fish. An amazing ecosystem, ideal for one day escape from the hassle of a big city. In the afternoon, head back to Thessaloniki.
Bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and comfortable clothes during summer months & warm clothes, waterproof jacket during winter months. Comfortable footwear is highly recommended. Have your e-ticket with you & your ID/PASSPORT (or copy).
