Rhodes 851 06, Greece
There was surprisingly large number of butterflies on trees, rocks and well, everywhere, really, even though we were told we'd be lucky to see some as they are a "one day in a year" kind of a thing. It was beautiful and breathtaking to walk through entire forest, walking nearby the small river that runs through the forest. There is a safe path that you take to walk through entire forest and it's not allowed to walk out of it so you don't endanger butterflies on the ground, grass,...
Lovely experience of the nature of Rhodes, mostly sheltered from direct sunlight so it's a calm quiet day out. Experienced in early October so there was only a singular butterfly to be seen. A steal at 3 euros for the length of the trail and the locals were mostly happy to answer any questions. Even without Butterflies everywhere the mountain views and waterfalls were beautiful to see.
Nice walk uphill. Surrounded by butterflies but I've also seen crabs, goats.. good alternative to lying on a beach
We went on a really warm day @ 3.30 it was quite quiet it's a pretty short walk but lots of steep steps and uneven ground we went in and up to the top cafe and back in half hour. The butterflies were everywhere, staff in the bottom restaurant were lovely and couldn't do enough.
Not sure if we went at a bad time, but it was so busy with your groups and just people in general. Made it difficult to enjoy or even walk at a decent pace due to all the traffic. I would suggest wearing a type of flat close toed shoe as it is very rocky and uneven path. Otherwise, the butterflies are wonderful.
