Omonoia Square, Athina 104 31, Greece
I would stay away from this area in Athens at the moment summer 2019, It's under renovation once again and the square itself is closed. It's full of refugees and has a dangerous feel. It's always been a shady part of town but I've never felt this unsafe. Nothing to do but maybe take the metro or walk through the area.
Busy vibe. Lots of eating places. Several entrances to metro station. Presently lot of renovation work going on. Centrally located close to historical centre. Walk to Syntygma square in 10 mins and connect to rest of Athens.
The area is nice and close to all facilities but man it’s rough! I went alone as a female tourist and could feel stares and the area is crowded with immigrants! People were leering from the streets! Got followed by a guy who ended up touching my leg and this was all during daytime. I definitely didnt feel safe after 6-7pm going alone on the streets!
Very grungy and clearly a ghetto sort of area, but I never felt particularly unsafe. You'll just get stared at a lot. Keep to yourself and nobody bothers you.
Busy, watch your valuables, was pickpocketed, took all the precautions .The phone they can keep but pictures are memories money can't buy . Still Love Athens,Greece it is History you cherished, admired and respect !
