The Benaki Museum exceeded my expectations and was a lovely way to spend several hours. You really leave with the sense of how multicultural and beautifully rich the history of Greece is. We stopped at the restaurant midway to refuel, which we also loved. I would advise anyone visiting Athens dedicate a few hours to this wonderful place.
I am usually not that much of an classical art person but I found this museum very interesting for it's wide array of different pieces. It covers classical busts, Renaissance paintings, Byzantine clothing, historical coins and much more. What I found best were the texts that have me a reference with which I could understand the various pieces.
The museum is situated in a beautiful historical building and hosts artifacts from all Greek periods. It offers an audio tour via an app but we didn't try it. Worth a visit.Lots of interesting stuff in this museum - I especially liked the exhibits on old styles of Greek clothing. If you're going to pay this museum a visit, come for lunch because the view from the top floor is spectacular!
We went here yesterday with my friends, we really enjoyed visiting here. They have also restaurant here, but too pricey for us, poor students. Here you can also see modern art, not only ancient and a lot of sacral art. It was definitely worth it.
It is a private collection and free for entrance, and just adjacent to the Parliament House in the best district of Athens. Many collections grouped in themes though personally I would say some of them are quite packed and the descriptions are a bit small, though lightings are OK and the crowd is not that many so one should still be able to enjoy the exhibits comfortably. One should not miss its coffee shop on the 3/F which offers excellent coffee and cakes with service and in an extremely spacious open-air terrace overlooking the Presidential House and the nearby urban park, and especially nice if around sunset hours
