Germany is a European powerhouse, boasting the largest economy in Europe. With over 82 million people, it has the largest population in the European Union.

But the country wasn’t always so successful. In fact, the country has an unsettling and tragic past; one of which involves two world wars, the genocide of millions of Jews and a divided nation. The history of Germany is best learnt through the memorials, museums and landmarks that occupy the cities and towns throughout the country.

The country is known around the world for producing some of the best beer, cars and and composers, including Johann Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Germany is home to one of the most impressive castles in the world, the Neuschwanstein Castle. The Brandenburg Gate is arguably the country’s most iconic and recognizable landmarks, and is conveniently located in Berlin, a cultural epicenter loaded with things to do and see. But if your idea of a German vacation involves fewer buildings and more greenery, consider driving along the Romantic Road (the name says it all) or taking a trip to the Black Forest. Despite being a bit touristy, drinking beer from a 1-liter glass stein is a must at the world-renowned Hofbräuhaus in Munich.

What is the best time of year to visit Iceland?

It’s never a bad time to visit Germany. While the weather changes with each season, there is always some sort of event or festival to keep the energy alive. Although it’s called Oktoberfest, much of this beer festival takes place in September, lasting more than two weeks. Christmas time can be cold throughout the entire country, but the spectacular Christmas markets keep the streets bustling. Ski season is typically from December to March, while hiking and other outdoor activities like swimming and biking are best enjoyed during the summer months.
