Northern Lights Hunt By Car

There is no such thing as turning on the Northern Lights for our guests to enjoy. However much we here in Lapland want everyone to be able to experience the wonder of dancing lights, the Tale of a Silver fox who created the earth itself, we can never give a hundred percent guarantee that you will experience that during the hunt. The good news is that there is a lot a good Northern Light hunter can do to increase the possibility to experience the Aurora Borealis. First of all we need a place with little or no clouds. Second of all we need a place with little or no light pollution. Third of all we need enough sun particles coming towards the atmosphere so if it is such an evening when the Lights might be visible we will start traveling towards the North and the Aurora zone to get rid of extra light and search for clear skies.

The hunt by a car or a van takes you into the wilderness towards the North where the Lights are more visible. We will meet you in front of the selected meeting point (Visit Levi Office/Hullu Poro Hotel or Zero Point) at approximately 9PM and start driving one way for about one and a half hours and, if we see the Auroras, stop the car to have pictures and just enjoy the view. After driving a while we will make a stop, drink some tea and eat some biscuits, and go out to look at the sky. If not for the Northern Lights then the sky with thousands of stars!

We will then resume our trip back towards Levi center. It takes about 1,5 hours for us to get back. The length of the trip depends also of the weather conditions. If the road is clear and not too slippery the driving takes less time but if the conditions are bad we will drive more carefully and the trip might take a few minutes longer. We should be back in Levi center at app. 1AM at night.
