Fabulous place for a free visit, the main chapel (photos not allowed) is absolutely stunning, all the grounds well kept and the shop reasonably priced. Gowns provided if inappropriately dressed ( I was ) brilliant mosaics and pretty much free to roam the whole grounds. Well worth the drive up there.
The monastery is beautifully located and the main Chapel is opulent and interesting in equal measure. If you are scantily clad by monk standards , like I was, you are provided with a rather fetching purple robe with which to cover up. The surrounding gift shops, however, are abundant with tat and really cheapen the overall experience.
A must visit. This monastry is breathtaking, the painted walls are stunning. The carving in the wood is beautiful, I really can't do this place justice trying to describe it. You have to visit.
The monastery itself is pretty small, didn't do the tour. But definitely continue driving up the hill to the statue, and 'Throni' - an incredible view up in the mountains!
We stopped here on our trip through the mountains. The women or men come to think of it who were wearing shorts or had their arms exposed were asked to wear a robe as a sign of respect inside the monastery .The only downside of the visit was there was a room that had quite a few glass cabinets with artefacts inside, unfortunately there wasn't any translation in English to say what was inside.
