Akrotiri
The nun was disappointed to hear that Google is saying they are close on weekends. She said they're open every day 07:00-18:00 in summer months. May differ in Winter. Lots of cats and the nuns appreciate you feeding them and perhaps buying a souvenir. Monastery church is beautiful and peaceful, founded by St. Helena. ⛪🐱🐈
It was lovely and the old Greek nun who greeted us opened the church up for us to look around. There were also.plenty of cats.
This place - one of the oldest monasteries of the island, which was, according to the legend, founded by St. Helen on the IV century (approx. 356). Those years a great drought came to Cyprus, when on the island there were many poisonous snakes. Empress Helen ordered to send ships with cats from Egypt and Minor Asia. On Akrotiti two monks built a small monastery. It is believed that here St.Helen left also a piece of the True Cross.
A unique monastery that hospitalizes dozens of cats.
Completely ignored by the nuns sat outside, even though spoken to by both me and my 1yr old daughter, about 6 cats all looking skinny and sick. Walked in and walked out, never saw the church.
