If you want to see how many ways you can carve a cross into salt, this place is for you. Some spots have cool lighting and/or sculptures. The tour was too crowded. The end of the tour dumps you out into an underground mall, basically. I don't understand what the fuss is all about.

Great experience. All the photos you can find don’t show the immense size of the place. Everyone is extremely polite and the tour is worth every penny. Bring money to buy unique souvenirs too.

Amazing place to visit within one hour out of Bogotá. Cathedral is so huge and spectacular. Worth to visit. Better to buy tickets online, tour is approx 1,5h long.

We had a frustrating experience trying to get tickets - what should be a fairly mundane thing took more than twenty minutes with a line that was out the door and barely moved until a bunch of people left. Once inside, however, it was incredible. Every view of a cavern illuminated by soft light was as breathtaking as the last. The information provided on the listening devices was helpful and succinct. Overall a great experience!

A cathedral of salt 660 ft (200 m) below ground that inspires and awes. When the Prussian naturalist Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859) visited Colombia in 1801, he believed that the deposits of halite (rock salt) mined at Zipaquirá were larger than any of the mines found in Europe. The mines had been exploited for centuries, during which time miners had carved sanctuaries where they prayed for protection in their dangerous labor. In the 1930s, they had excavated an underground church, and in 1950 N. SouthAmericabegan to turn this church into a salt cathedral, dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary, the patron saint of miners. Structural and safety problems led to the cathedral’s closure in 1992, but in response, the miners built a new cathedral 197 ft (61 m) below the old one. Inaugurated on December 16, 1995, the cathedral has three naves and 14 small chapels for each Station of the Cross, their icons and architectural details carved out of the halite rock.
