Cerro Toco, San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta Region, Chile
Relatively easy volcano to climb in the Andes. It's just a one hour drive from San Pedro de Atacama. You do need to be acclimatized as the ascent starts at 5000 meters and the summit is at 5600 meters. The path is straightforward with no technical difficulties. Stunning views along the way and at the summit. Views at the summit include the Laguna Blanca in Bolivia.
Must use a guide. Very rewarding hike. Make sure you have acclimated a couple of days.
Very, very, very, good I loved the view and it made very good photos, but be aware: It’s very high!
The Toco (5.604mts asl) is supposed to be an easy trek, especially un summer. I went up in winter using a long route (pick-ups couldn't climb over ~4500 due to snow), and it was a tiring but extremely beautiful climb. Worth every drop of sweat.
Good beginner volcano. Rather easy to climb. Took us 1h15 to get up and 20min to go down.
